Wild Animals: Scottish Wild Cat

Scottish Wild Cat

If you think you have to go on safari to see some cool wild animals, then think again! We’ve tracked down some fascinating wild animals - and they can all be found living in the UK!

Scottish wildcat
The Scottish wildcat is Britain's only remaining feline (cat) species. It's also the most endangered carnivore (meat-eating animal) in the UK. Experts think there are probably less than 500 purebred Scottish wildcat left. Because they sometimes mate with domestic cats, there could be around 4,000 cross-bred Scottish wildcats. They might look like a cute moggie, but they are very tough - it's said that they are the only wild animal which is totally untameable!

Where could I spot one?
As their name suggests, Scotland is the place to look and there have been sightings from Edinburgh and up the east coast. If you think you've spotted a Scottish wildcat, you can report it on this website.
