Wild Animals: Crane

Crane

If you think you have to go on safari to see some cool wild animals, then think again! We’ve tracked down some fascinating wild animals - and they can all be found living in the UK!

Crane
The crane is a massive grey bird with a long neck and long, drooping tail feathers. It's incredibly rare, and only a very small number of cranes, possibly only around four pairs, breed somewhere in eastern England. The exact location is kept a secret in order to protect the birds. More cranes pass through England as they migrate (fly away to warmer countries), although still very few, perhaps around 40 birds each year. Like most birds they eat seeds, insects, snails and worms.

Where could I spot one?
You could spot a migrating bird in the South or East of England, April and May are the best months.
