BMX biking
As well as being a great bike that you can use for cycling to school or days out with your family, BMX riding can also be an exhilarating sport. If you want to get serious, there are competition events for kids aged six and above.

What makes a BMX special is that it's light enough to be ridden at speed, but it's tough enough to be jumped too. This means that BMX riding consists of racing and tricks on half-pipes, for example back flips. There are clubs all over the country, and most have their own tracks, so once you've joined you'll have somewhere to practice.

Use the BikingUK website to find out where there's a BMX club near you. Mat Hoffman is one of the most famous BMX riders in the world; he started on the freestyle BMX circuit aged 13. He's appeared on lots of TV shows and there are two Mat Hoffman video games. The pop band McFly are big fans of BMX riding.
