Surfing
If you're already a strong swimmer, and you've got regular access to the sea, then surfing is an amazing sport to take up. Surfing is tricky and can be dangerous, so don't just buy a board and take it out to sea. Get organised and book lessons first. Try a one-off introductory lesson to begin with - it will last around two and a half hours, and should cost about £20.

Surfing is very strenuous, so you'll need to be physically fit and have good upper body strength. Equipment wise, you'll need a board that's about 1-2 feet taller than your height and a wetsuit, but check if your instructor has equipment you can borrow before you go shopping.

Hollywood star Cameron Diaz is a keen surfer. She learnt to surf while making the Charlie's Angels films. She's also mates with Kelly Slater, the most successful professional surfer of all time, so she gets tips from the best.
